Another Batch of Burp Cloths

A year ago I wanted to make a bunch of burp cloths for me to sell at a local store that was having a craft fair. I didn't sell any there but have sold one set since. I hope to feature that set and how I altered it next week. I love how it turned out.

This is the set that I sold but I also have more of this fabric and can make another set if this tickles your fancy. All of these fabrics are by Amy Butler and I will never grow tired of looking at these pretty fabrics.

You might have seen these fabrics before in other things that I have made. I have a big bin of fabric that is the perfect size for burp cloths and every once in a while I just go through them and make a bunch of sets of burp cloths.

These and a few other sets are featured on Etsy and I would be happy to personalize them send them along to you. They are prefect for shower gifts or just a welcome home to mom and baby, especially when this is not the first baby. Sometimes mom is ready for something new for their second, third, etc child. They have to look at some many hand me downs that something new is fresh and oh so nice.

I have been on a fabric buying hold for a bit but looking at Amy's fabrics always makes me want to buy more. I haven't stepped foot into the local fabric store in a while just so that I am not tempted. So pretty.

Robin's Egg Blue Stripe

Nothing too exciting about this breastfeeding cover. I had an order for a cover and matching burp cloth from my cousin and her coworker for another coworker. I think she had a little boy and I love how modern and neutral this stripe is but also has a bit of "boy" with the blue stripe. I ended up using the stripe the opposite direction on the burp cloth as I like the stripes running across rather than down the burp cloth. The combination of robin's egg blue, khaki, and lime green together are unexpected but work well together.

I will be working on a few more of these in the coming weeks so be prepared for more!

Spring Baby Showers

Did I already tell you enough how much I love spring?! I can't wait for the warmer temperatures and I have already brought my spring wardrobe up from the depths of the basement. I am all ready.
Last summer I made these two gift sets for a friend of mine for two baby showers she was attending. We worked together to create the items below.

The first set the theme was transportation. I showed her a bunch of different fabrics and she settled on the fabric with cars and trucks on it. This was made into a big taggie blanket with orange minky on the back and as accent fabric on two burp cloth. Then there was a screen printed onesie with two cars and one truck in the same bold colors found in the blanket. I used some neon here and love how the color pops off of the onesie. The year set of onesies was made with coordinating dot fabric, blue dots on brown background. The lettering is done in brown.

The theme of this gift set was cows (with a few other special items placed in the set). This set includes (from top right going counter clockwise) a breastfeeding cover, star onesie with stripe leggings, cow screen printed oneise, two black and white spotted burp cloths, a year set of onesies with black in and black and white dot fabric, and finally a cow print taggie blanket with green minky on the back.

I totally love these sets and would love to create more "Baby Shower Baskets" if anyone is wanting to give a nice set at a baby shower, holiday or birthday.

As I have said before I love coming up with custom items based on what the buyer wants and the cow and truck/car onesies I just fell in love with. Who wouldn't want a cow on a onesie and maybe it needs to say something cute on it like got milk or something. The cars/truck onesie could say something like movin'. I hope to get more taggie blankets made this spring and feature a few more here on the blog. Finally for all of those St. Louis Cardinal's fans, those red and blue leggings would be perfect with a Cardinal's onesie for those chilly nights at the game.

Putting Your Mark On It

I have always loved monograms and other ways to personalize items. I remember having a whole box of Lillian Vernon personalized pencils when I was younger and I loved them. I also loved having my name on everything, backpacks, mugs, headbands, and even sweatshirts. I think this trend is never going to go out of style because who doesn't love to see their name in lights.

I had an order for a set of burp cloths with initials embroidered near the bottom. I loved this idea and I love how they turned out. I did a much more simple single initial on burp cloths back here and I really like them with the fabric better than just the letter and plain burp cloth, it adds an extra punch. I really hope someone wants to have more fun with this and maybe go with a name, or even a fancy monogram. I finally have a software that allows me to create a monogram and not just three letters the same size (like above).

Does this mean I need to start testing this out on my own family and friends? I think it might...or maybe this is a good future giveaway item. humm..

Baby Blue Cover and Burp Cloth

Didn't I say last week that I have been making a lot of breastfeeding covers lately? Well here is another one. :) This was made for a friend of mine as her baby shower gift. I was not sure what she was having and what kind of fabric that she would like so I gave her an IOU/gift card to make her a set. She picked out the fabric and I picked it up and put these together. She did have a baby boy and I think this is a pretty pattern for a mama with a baby boy.

I love this pattern, it is an all over print but not as specific as floral, dots, stripe etc. I can totally see this friend of mine liking this fabric and I hope that she gets good use out of this and/or the burp cloth.

I am not sure when I will have the next cover up to show you but I hope to get it on soon. Ok back to sewing tonight...then bed.

Lots of Cloths To Clean Baby's Face Clean

I was on a roll a few months ago and made a few sets of burp cloths to sell at a local boutique. I didn't sell that many there but I did sell quite a few at the local Cotton Babies store a few months back. I am so glad most of these are off with their new owner and cleaning up many baby faces.

This set is from two leftover fabrics from two breastfeeding covers. One with dots and one with stripes.

This is made from my favorite set of fabrics. I don't know if I will ever get tired of seeing these two fabrics together.

This is the only set that I have left in stock ready to ship. It is made from flannel fabric, so it is super soft. How cute are those turtles?! Check out my Etsy site to pick these up.

These grey blue and pink cloths are sweet for a little girl. Love the dots with the floral.

Gift Set

Do you ever feel like days and months go by and your to-do list is still as long and nothing seems to have been crossed off? I have been feeling that way for a few weeks, like life is moving by and I am just sitting here. I am not just sitting here, I am 18 weeks pregnant (WHAT?! when did that happen) and chasing after a 15 month old. I love my life and hope that when I am home full time I can get more house work and sewing work done. Now to find the motivation to do all of these things first.

This is a set that was ordered back in the fall on Etsy by a friend of mine. Thanks for the order! She was buying this for a friend of hers who was having a baby. I am pretty sure that the onesie and leggings we were for the baby-a boy and that the purple burp cloth is for the mom to enjoy while burping her prince.

I hope that mamma was happy with her package and that this lovely friend of mine can wait a few more days for her birthday winnings.

I hope everyone had a wonder Easter! Ours was full of family, fun, eggs and CANDY! Hope to be back on the blogging bandwagon for good.

Georgie Porgie

This set is for a new little baby whom I finally got to meet a few weeks back and he is a cutie! My husband has done some work for them and we are becoming friends and he thought it would be great to make them a little something and I agreed. :)

Just a simple bib with a matching burp cloth for cleaning up what I hope will not be a lot of spit-up. I like the way this set turned out, the burp cloth is not a coordinating pattern by the same maker but I think they look great together. The name George is so cute and it seems to fit the little man. Hope this little man is doing well and enjoying his new wears.

Professional Student

GO MIZZOU! Homecoming was this past weekend and not only did our family enjoy time in Columbia but the Tigers crushed Iowa State! How fitting that right after this Homecoming weekend I have a Mizzou item to show you. I found this Mizzou fabric (and one other) and was so excited to make a burp cloth with it for a friend whom I met at Mizzou and is having her first baby in a month or so. Now she has a burp cloth to use with this new baby while watching football...ok or just to remember the fun times at Mizzou. I haven't actually made a burp cloth in a while so it was actually fun to do that again.

They found out that they were having a boy and did not have a name picked out so I thought it would be cute to make an oneise with a tie on it. I made the tie out of an old tie from my Father-in-law that has been sitting around the house waiting for me to make something. I made the tie short so that this onesie could be worn with pants and you can still see the bottom of the tie.

I really like the way this turned out and am all ready to make more of these onesies with the other old ties that I have. I will be posting a listing on Etsy for these very soon, a lot of the ties that I have, have a very vintage feel to them and I think it is going to be so much fun to make these. I also have a lot of different fabrics ready to go to make more burp cloths, maybe these will be part of my 30 day challenge nights- burp cloths and tie onesies. We will see. 

A Gift To Help Mommies

I was laying in bed last night at midnight when I realized that it was Wednesday and that I missed this post! Opps. My days are all messed up and it still feels like Wednesday today but the best news of all is that it is almost Friday!

Well there have been a lot of exciting posts this week with the Christmas Boutique info, giveaway, and now a special gift for a charity is close to my heart. Every year the local Natural Family Planning office holds a trivia night to raise money for women with infertility to help pay for adoption. Having many friends with infertility whether for a short time or on going and experiencing it a bit myself I feel for couples who want children so badly but can not have one of their own. They asked me to donate some items for the silent auction and I was happy to do so. I gave this gift basket the first year and attended the trivia night the first year. This year I can not attend but did donate these items below.

I did not have time to make as many items as I did the first year so instead I made two burp cloths, a pair of baby leggings, and a cute oneise with a cat on the front. This picture does not do them justice but they all have yellow and orange in them and they all coordinate with out matching too closely. I think this set is perfect for a boy or girl. I hope that the person that get this really enjoys it!

Here is a closer picture of the cat. I had this blue fabric with the cat already appliqued on it and I thought how cute and perfect for the oneise. I just stitched it to the onesie and I like how bold the cat is and how whimsical.

More Silky Burp Cloths

It has been a while since I showed you these silky burp cloths, and these and these. I cut this fabric last winter and just did not have time to get to them until a few weeks ago. I really love the combo of the leopard with the brown flannel. Soft on one side and smooth on the other.

I also found this cute purple fabric with the white flowers and knew that this would make a great burp cloth for those who love a floral. It is a bit of a modern flower and purple is a big color these days so how great would this be for a new mom?! I paired this color with the white since that purple was a hard color to find in flannel.

Last but not least is this black and white floral pattern with white on the back. I love how this floral pattern is so abstract that sometimes it looks like a zebra print. For those who are not so daring with color I think even though this pattern is larger the colors are a bit more traditional. This fabric is not as shiny as the others and would draw a little less attention.

I think these are fun and different burp cloths and ones that mom will appreciate and so will baby. Something soft to rest their head against and for mom something cute to put on her shoulder. The flannel sort of grips your clothing and stays on your shoulder pretty well.

I have some fun projects in the wings and can not wait to get them finished to show you what I have going on.

Baby Presents for E and C

I am learning more and more about my embroidery machine each day, what I can do with it, how to make it do what I want it to do, and just simple things like how to thread the needle. Let me tell you automatic needle threaders are great but tricky sometimes!
When I was working on these items that a friend commissioned for two new babies I ran into some more embroidery problems. I put the name Evan on this onesie and it ate a few holes in the onesie and it was puckered between the letters. I hated how it looked and decided to do it over again.

The second time making the onesie I thought I would try using my Yudu machine and screen print the name instead! I think it turned out MUCH better and I even changed the pattern and color of the outfit since I went ahead and gave them that other onesie for free, now they have two with different looks.

I really like how it turned out but I also wanted to fix the problems that I had on the other onesie so I went to learn more about my machine from the store where I purchased it and boy did I learn a lot. I hope that my future embroidery projects go so much smoother than this one did.

She also wanted me to add some initials to burp cloths so that she could apply ribbon and make them more personable for the two different babies. I love how simple the one initial is on the burp cloth, and thank goodness these went well on my machine!

There are more projects like this coming down the pike, be on the look out for a lot of personalized items.

Coordinating Cover and Burp Cloths

A friend of mine who found out that she was due just a bit after me asked if I could make her a cover and two burp cloths for her little one. She is waiting to find out what she is having and wanted something neutral but cute. She picked out the floral fabric and matching dot for the burp cloths. I love the way the two patterns coordinate, it almost looks like the dots came from the center of the flowers. ;)

I like the flowers on the cover, it has great neutral colors but at the same time is a bit feminine for a mom to wear. You don't have to have a cover in the color of the sex of your baby, you are the one wearing it. The burp cloths are nice and neutral and that is perfect for using while burping so that everyone doesn't confuse your boy for a girl or vise versa.

Christmas Presents For a Little One

This is an order for a little baby born sometime during the Christmas season and this baby's aunt wanted to get something special to celebrate his birth. She asked for a set of burp cloths and two oneies with a phrase on the front and something cute on the butt.

I have yet to do any onesies with embroidery on them OR with something sewn on the butt so I thought this would be a fun project. The burp cloths and first onesie she wanted to match the fabric I used has a fun blue bubble dot pattern on brown. It is great for a boy and looks great as a bow tie. The phrase she wanted was Gurley Man (the baby's last name), and I love the play on words as well.

She mentioned what about a bow tie for the butt and I thought it was cute and funny and went with it. I love how it looks on the butt, cute but with a little bit of humor.

Since he is coming around Christmas time for the second onesie she wanted it to say Santa's little helper and have something on the butt, we decided on an ornament. Here is one of the Christmas fabrics I showed you a few weeks ago. I think it is a cute addition to the onesie.

I think this little guy is going to look so cute in his new outfits. Now that I have done a little bit of embroidery and applique on the butt you might be seeing more of this here on the blog.

A Cover For Me!

I have been trying to get everything ready for the baby to come, I do have two months but I am afraid they are going to just fly by with the holidays coming up. I found this fabric a while ago and just love it, something about the bright green background with the black and white just thrills me. I usually love really bright fabrics and I am sure that I will make another one with some bright print but for now I really love this print. It has some pop but isn't too crazy with the colors.

I made a cover and two burp cloths for myself, you never know when you will need them. These colors will look great with my diaper bag as well, it is grey with some green accents. I think these burp cloths will be great poking out of the bag. I am excited to use it!!!

Silky Burp Cloths Part III

Here is the long awaited part three, I am sure that all of you were on the edge of your seat waiting to see what part three was going to be. Here it is! This set is a bit more oriental and sophisticated and the front is silk so it is not as washer friendly as the other burp cloths. The other two that I showed you have been pre-washed and are able to be washed over and over. This set has a beautiful gold and brown silk on the front that I am not sure it can be washed. I might be able to be spot cleaned and washed on gentle but not put in the dryer.

I know that does not sound as practical for a burp cloth but there is always the back to use and again maybe just a spot cleaning will do it. I just love how the rich gold front looks with the dark maroon fleece backing. It would look great on a purse and could be used as the back up, back up burp cloth.

Sometimes you just have to make something that moves you but is not practical.

I am getting closer and closer to showing you the before and after of the baby room. I am thinking about entering it into a contest and if I do I will let you know so that you can vote for me. Happy Wednesday, I have a feeling Friday will be here before I know it.

Silky Burp Cloths Part II

As promised here is the second installment of the burp cloth/scarfs that I have been making. I really am in love with these and as you can tell, can not stop making them! Be on the lookout for more and once my rush of custom items are finished I plan to put these up for sale.

Here we have the red circle silky fabric backed in the red flannel. It is a nice punch of color and would look great on a dark brown or black purse. It looks much better in person and I hope to get a better shot of it before putting them up for sale.

There are other fun things in the works and if I can finally motivate myself, it is pumpkin decorating night.

Silky Burp Cloths Part 1

Over the weekend I was all pumped up to get things done around the house and to finish some sewing items. I have not only projects that need to be done for clients but some projects that I would like to make and put on this site or etsy to sell. So I worked on this set of burp cloth/ scarfs. This is another one of those silky fabrics that I picked up at the fabric store a while ago and I used the cream flannel fabric that I had to go with it.

This like the ones I made in the past can work as "purse scarfs" when you are in need of them and then you can untie it and use it for you baby. I made these a bit longer than the brown circle version ones that I made in the past because they might tie better to some purses/diaper bags.

I of course made a bunch of other ones that I will wait to show you, be on the look out for Parts II and III. :)

 

I am on a roll and got so much done over the weekend that it is energizing me to keep working at this pace. Some of the things I made might not debut on the site for a bit but it feels great to scratch things off my list.

New Fabric/New Find Friday #39

I saw this fabric at the store while picking up something for a future project and it just called to me. I really like funky animal prints, but they have to be just right, a nice balance between traditional and fun but not trashy. You know what I mean? Sometimes you see animal prints and they just look trashy or cheep but this one is funky without be trashy but not traditional because of those blue dots.

It is a silky fabric and the print is brown and blue on white. The colors do not show up the best in the picture but trust me it is cute. I hope to make a few burp cloths with this and have them on my blog/etsy site soon.I am working on that at the same time as I am cleaning out my sewing stuff from the baby room. It is a great time to organize and get some much needed projects finished.

 I will let you know when I am finished, there will be a lot of fun stuff and some more fun before and after pictures.

New Stylish Burp Cloth

I posted some new silky fabrics last week and here is what I used it for...a burp cloth. A friend of mine told me about this new burp cloth that she saw that is a scarf that you have tied on to your purse and then you can pull it off to use as a burp cloth.

This was part of the baby gifts I gave to my friend last weekend (shown on my purse) but I think that it will go really well with her purse. The front is the silky fabric and the back is a soft fleece material. I can not wait to hear reviews from my friend when she starts using it.

I really think these are so cute and I can't wait to make more in the next few weeks. I can not wait to show you how the rest of them look.
