Quick Takes #14

7 quick takes sm1 7 Quick Takes Friday (vol. 198)

1. Quick while kiddos are sleeping and I feel like typing let's knock these out. I don't know if I told you that my Father in law was taken to the hospital a month or so ago but he is doing much better and is in rehab now so we all hope that he can go home soon. Thank you to all that knew about this and were/are praying. We know that they have helped as things were looking really badly for a while. During this whole time we were talking to my in-laws about heath care directives and realized that we really need to update our health care directive so that if and when we need it is conforms to our wishes and those of the Catholic Church. I want to make sure I am clear now for one day when I might not be able to be clear about what I want.

2. I finally got through two teething boys and now that all of the teeth are in (8 total, 4 for each kid) they are sleeping better, are not as crabby, and I am a happier mommy. Whew I can't imagine how that must feel and I would probably be MORE than cranky if I were getting teeth. Speaking of teeth we are trying out this thing called a myo mumchee on our 2.5 year old to correct his overbite. We are hoping that by using this each day we can correct it before braces are needed...yikes those are expensive. I have a before picture and can't wait to have an after to prove it works. Might be a few years in the making since we don't do it as often as we should.

3. Why do I wait so long to get a haircut? After having a partial mullet and having my husband trim my neckline for a month or so I went in for a trim. While I was there I was talking to the hairdresser about coloring my hair and we went for it! I love it because it is just a natural color that only the white hair should take and even some of them didn't take the dye so it makes the grey a bit more blended and give a bit more life to the color of my hair. The hubby is not as happy with it but that's okay, it grows out. Well I don't know if you can tell the color by this bad cell phone picture, and it has been a few weeks so maybe some of the color is gone but I love it.

4. I have fallen in love with some removable wallpaper. I have always loved wallpaper but when I heard about this I decided I just have to have some. I would love to try it on my kitchen back splash but know that the master of the house will think I am crazy. Maybe I can find some other place to use it...

5. So this is reaching back a few weeks but I had a great Mother's Day. I got to spend it with both sides of the family and we went to my parents house and just sat around and ate. I even got to continue a puzzle that I have been working on for a year. I realized that three years ago I gave my moms (mom and mom in law) cards telling them that we were expecting on Mother's Day. It was such a fun surprise.

6. We have a trip planned and I am just dreading the packing for four people. Does anyone have any travel tips for flying with two under the age of 3? I have gotten a few tips and will always welcome more. I am sure it will be fine and the fact that my husband will be there with me on this trip will help but something about crying children on airplanes makes me want to break out in a sweat.

7. Since we are going on vacation and I have a few projects around the house that I would like to finish up soon I am taking a month vacation on my Etsy Store. I will for sure have it on vacation for a few weeks and then might just do in stock items for sale or I might keep it on vacation for a month and then open it back up for only stock items. I am not sure yet but I know that my family, and I, need this little break from having to do things late into the night. I might even be able to create more stock items to have ready to ship! This might also mean that the blog will have less posts this summer or maybe not since I will have a bit more time to spend on blogging?! I don't know yet.

New Fabric/New Find Friday #131

Wow I have been busy around here and I am missing you blog friends. I hope to jump back on the blogging wagon and start to post more often. It seems like now that the warm summer weather hit I have been busy with all kinds of things around the house and no time for blogging.

I love these fabrics that I have to show you today so lets drool over some pretties! The first fabric is a pink and green stripe, pretty simple but also so happily girly. The second fabric is a blue and white flannel with giraffe print on it. I think that is giraffe, not so sure about my animal skins. I have already cut these out to make mini taggie blankets and I hope to get working on those while I am on Etsy vacation next month. Then there are those cute green frogs on the pink and white dot flannel fabric. So soft and fun! Last but not least a green PUL which is for diaper covers but I used it to make some new diaper pail bags and travel wet bags for the car. The green is great because it is unisex and goes with the fabric in the boys room (where the diaper pail sits).
Here they are again, don't those two middle fabrics look so soft and cozy?! Hope to be back in a bit with another post. I might be hit or miss for the next few months of summer, a great time to get outside with the kiddos and I am going to work on a few big projects around the house. I will be sure to over share about all of them!

Pinterest Challenge- Spring 2013 Edition

I missed the Fall and Winter Pinterest Challenge by just a few days, that is what happens when you are running after two kiddos and don't have time to read a million blogs (I try, but sometimes they slip though the cracks). I am back to participate in the spring edition put on by Young House Love . You can see my other posts here and here and here.

Like the last project, this was also a for my friend who got married last summer. This was her second wedding gift to go along with the map hearts from the last challenge. Sorry these were so spread apart!

Inspiration photo was found on Pinterest of course and I used it as inspiration for a menu board for them. You can find the original link to the menu board Here. I had some extra burlap and thought this would be fun for their kitchen.
I started out with this picture which could have been hung like this in a bathroom or closet? I liked the shape and frame and that is why I picked to use it for the menu board. I took it apart and put burlap in the frame. She was using a lot of burlap and lace in her wedding decor so I thought this would only be fitting.

Instead of using vinyl for the wording I thought that screen printing the burlap would be longer lasting and bolder. So I printed that right onto the burlap with black ink.
I decided that instead of putting the days of the week I would just leave the bottom part blank this way not only can they use a dry erase marker to put the weekly menu they could also use it for a party and put the party menu or even just tape up a printed calendar of the week or month's meals.

And....here is what I came up with.
I like how it turned out, there is something about a square frame that looks modern and I hope will be a great addition to their kitchen. They did use it on the day of their wedding at the head of the buffet line to let everyone know what was being served for dinner. I wasn't even thinking of telling her to use it but she did! Smart girl.

Check out the other women who put this challenge on, Katie, Sherry, Emily, and Renee. Also go Here to check out other bloggers like me who took the challenge. Had a blast and can't wait for the fall challenge. (I already have something in the works.)

What I Wore #19

What I Wore Sunday linkup

It was chilly Sunday and so I wanted to wear something I would be warm in but at the same time I am so ready for spring that I didn't really want to wear my boots. I might have to put them on one more time before the 80 degree weather hits. I know that I will be excited to pull them out in the fall since I finally found a pair that fits and I like. Okay back to this outfit. I just got this top last week super on sale at Ann Taylor and yes it sort of looks like something my mom would wear, but then again I am a mom right? I like it and it goes well with my navy pants. This shirt is great for hiding that little mommy pooch and I love the zipper at the top in the back. So cute.

The pants I have had for several years, they were part of my work attire and now are part of my Church/everyday attire. These flats are wonderful, so comfortable and I like the little flower bundle attached to the toe box.

Do I look tired...well I am. We had a big weekend full of date nights and cooking so I am ready for bed as soon as everyone else is asleep. No sewing for me tonight.

Clothing Details:
Pants: Ann Taylor Loft
Top: Ann Taylor Loft (New)
