New Fabric/New Find Friday #12

Again another week gone by way too quickly. The good news is that my "third job" will be ending tomorrow and so I should have more time to work on my "second job", sewing and this blog! I hope to be back in full force with about 5 projects I need to work on next week.

Until then here are some great fabrics I picked up at the store.
I am really loving the second one that looks so similar to an Amy Butler print but instead of the design being a flower it is squares. I like the flower print with the stripe running through it on the bottom fabric, so happy. The one on the top is fun and playful, not sure what I would use it for yet but I like that it has some blue and green in with the pinks.
I have a blue post coming up if you are sick of the pinks. Just love the springy colors...

New Fabric/New Find Friday #11

This has been a really busy week for me, I have not had a chance to sleep let alone sew, soooo I was really worried about what I was going to post this week. Then I got a package in the mail yesterday from my scrap club and I was so excited!!! I opened it up and knew that was what I was going to show you and boy am I excited.
They are all PINK! Love it. I am just dreaming of fun projects I can use this for, I know a few people having baby girls pretty soon...

Anyone want something made with one of these fun pink fabrics? I just might make a skirt for myself out of the second from the top. Fun and springy. Happy St. Joseph's Day and Happy Spring!

Custom First Birthday Present

A friend of mine who is a graphic designer and has lots of creative graphic deisgner friends sent this really awesome invite to her daughter's first birthday party. I was so in love with it and wanted to make her something special but I wasn't sure what to do.

After thinking of everything that I make I finally settled on making her a custom onesie with the picture from the invite on it. This required some help from mom to send me the picture, I had to make it sound urgent with out her asking too many questions. After I got the picture I printed it on fabric and then put it on the onesie with a cute zig zag stitch.

Looks a lot like the picture huh?
Here is a close up view of the image on fabric. Isn't it so cute?! The flash sort of bleached it out but I love the way it looks.
Then after making the onesie I decided I needed to add something to it so I made a pair of neutral baby leggings to go with it.
I had to convince my friend that I was making something awesome and that she needed to get it from me before the party. She did and it was worn as her backup outfit after the cake landed all over outfit #1. I hope it becomes a keep-sake for years to come.

New Fabric/New Find Friday #10

How did this week go by so quickly? I am enjoying the sun and warmth and I am ready for spring, which is my favorite season. This week's new fabric/find Friday is going to be a little bit different, I didn't get any new fabric so it's time for a new find.

Last year I guess I was so busy, or lazy, that I used the same black purse all year long. I really like it but it is finally falling apart! All of the fake leather is just coming off in big black pieces, ick! I have been wanting to make my own purse after reading about Amy's purse making adventure but I have yet to do it so instead I have been on a purse hunt for about a month and finally found one that I like, and it comes with its own umbrella, bonus!!
I saw on one of the blogs I like to read that she put a fabric pin on her purse and I thought what a great idea! So off I was to make a fabric flower and I had nothing but a picture to go by but I think it turned out pretty cute. I used some scraps of my favorite fabrics and some little scraps I had from work to create this cute little flower, which is proudly displayed on my purse. It makes me happy to look at, and makes me think SPRING!

After looking at it for a few days I think that I should change the button to something solid and I love it for a purse but it would be better on a more causal fabric purse, I am not loving it on my purse anymore. What do you think? I think this pin would be great on a sweater or jacket also, where would you use it?

To Buy Or Not To Buy

I have been wanting to buy a new cutting machine for a while and have gone back and forth about which one I should buy and why. I have been looking at the Cricut Expression but it is so expensive and you have to buy cartridges each time you want to change font.

Then I found this....the Silhouette

It costs about the same or a little less than the Expression and you can use any font that you have on your computer so there is no need to buy the cartridges. I can use it to create a ton of things and it will make what I do so much easier but the question is will I use it enough to make the price worth it.

So I am putting the questions out to you, should I buy it or not?

Taggie Blanket

Here we are with the reveal of what I did with the winning fabric that I talked about here. I made it into a taggie blanket for our niece's little girl who was born in December. I hope she loves it as she grows up, right now she might not know what to do with it. I hear lots of kids love the tags on their toys and so a lot of people have started making blankets with a bunch of tags so the kids can feel all of the different textures. I personally had a purse that I liked the strap to, it was rough and for some reason I loved the feel of it.
Here is another view of the back and the front with all of the fun tags coming off the side. If you look closely you can see that I stuck my own tag on it as well (hint hint look at the top second from the right). I was so happy to find so many fun ribbon to go with this fabric, I love the play of white, pink, yellow, and tan.
Did you have a favorite blanket growing up? One that you still sleep with at night, shhh we won't tell anyone. ;)

New Fabric/New Find Friday #9

Today I have some fun fabrics to share. I have signed up for a monthy buying group from a quilting website and they send fabrics to me once a month. They don't tell you what they are going to send but every month it is a different fabric designer's fabrics. This month was an Amy Butler stack, LOVE THEM!
Believe it or not I do not already own these patterns in these colors. I think some of them are going to be so great for aprons, some for pillows, some for breastfeeding covers, and some for misc. items. I really can not wait to cut into them but at the same time I hate to cut them, they make me so happy because they are so pretty.
So anyone want to place an order?!

A number 2

I am back with part two of my A projects. A friend of mine (who I have linked in my blog list--Finding The Beauty In The Mess) ordered this for a little someone she knows who's name also starts with "A". She choose this fabric and I love the way it turned out with the hot pink thread. A little pop of color around the letter setting it off against the white onesie.
She also ordered a matching burp cloth out of the same fabric. The more that I make things out of this fabric the more I like it. I love all of the bright colors, the little butterflies and how fun and girly it is. I used a different font on this A, I choose the font on the previous post and let this client pick. I love how they both turned out, not the standard A you see everyday, both have a bit of style and are playful and fun without being too baby or cartoon like.
Here it is all ready to go to its new home. When I delivered it to my friend she was happy to see the finished product. Being able to deliver the item and see their reaction to it in person is the best motivation for me to want to make more.
To see the first A project go to yesterday's post. Which one do you like better?

The First of Two A's

It seems like "A" is a very popular initial, I had two projects last month using an A and I think I know a few more that might be coming up. The one I want to share with you today is a set I made for my cousin who had her baby shower a few weeks ago. I wanted to make a little something special for her and her little baby girl about to arrive and thought a onesie like I have made before with the letter on it would be great. I wanted to make it a bit more girly and decided to make the letter out of a fun patterned fabric with different colored flowers.

While I was at it why not make a matching burp cloth to go with it, and some fun baby leggings, pink stripe ones of course!
Here they are all rolled up and ready to go. I was not able to make it to the shower but I hope that A and Baby A love these presents! Stay tuned for part two of projects with an "A".

Black and White Doted Circles

Here is the reveal of the black and white fabric seen back in this Friday post. A friend of mine is having baby #2 and they are waiting to find out what they are having so she was looking for something to go with her black and green diaper bag that was gender neutral. I was looking high and low for black with mint green circles but found nothing! I finally asked her if she would be okay with black and white and this is what she picked.
I decided since I featured this fabric with red fabric in the last post that it would be fun to take a picture of it in my "red room". I have this "lady lamp" that I just realized is perfect for displaying my covers when they are finished. ;) Almost as good as having a dress form but cheaper because I already own it!

I made her a burp cloth to match the cover, you have to have matching accessories right?! I hope you enjoy C and I bet baby W will love to look at this cover for hours, oh the contrast and movement!
