New Fabric/New Find Friday #54

These fabrics that I found are so much fun! There are some bright colors but at the same time they more monochromatic than some of the others I have been posting.
I have no idea why I could not get this picture to be turned the correct way. The image was saved as a horizontal picture and it kept showing up as a vertical picture. GGRR Sorry you will have to turn your head or just look at them from top to bottom.
So from the top, I think that multi-colored dot fabric will be so cute as a letter applique on onesies. The second from the top is a green and blue flower pattern, subtle but I love how modern it looks. The third down is a blue background with a green dot. Wouldn't that be great for another bow tie or tie on the front or back of a onesie? The fabric on the very bottom is another colorway of fabrics I have shown you before, you saw it in the Christmas fabric post in red and white and again in orange and pink a while back. I like having it in the green and yellow colorway, could be great for a boy.

Embroidered Hat

I have seen a few of these hats that are embroidered with the name of the baby on it and I think they are so cute. I like them so much I had to make one for a special little boy. He is not big enough for it yet but I am sure he is wearing it anyway.
I would have liked to make the name a bit bigger but the hem in the hat was already there so that is the size I had to work with. Maybe in the future I will re-sew the manufactured hem and then make the name bigger.
These make great little gifts, I can not wait to make more of these for the little babies in my life that are about to be born.

Announcing....

I just wanted to make a formal announcement to let all of you know that we had our baby boy a few weeks ago. I had blog posts already scheduled to post so I have not missed too much blogging, don't worry I did not blog while in the hospital or right after I got home. I wanted to let you know so if I miss posting a few days in the next few weeks you will know why. It is hard to sew with a newborn baby, but I am mastering the sling so it might just happen faster than I think.

I really feel strange about putting too much personal information on my blog, especially about my babies (husband and son) for privacy reasons. This blog is mostly about my crafts and not as much about my life...but then again life creeps into work and hobbies. We had been calling this new baby of ours "Baby Bee" when he was in the womb because we did not know if it was a boy or a girl and I think I will continue to use that name here on the blog because you know a Mom can not help but talk about her baby once in a while. ;)

I ask you to be patient with me and keep checking back. We will see what I can get done with a newborn.

New Fabric/New Find Friday #53

In honor of our little baby I bought a few baby flannel fabrics at the store the other day. They are so soft and cuddly. There are always so many cute baby fabrics and the flannels always make me want to make them into a blanket and take a nap.
The fabric on the left is a yellow background with baby items- blocks, bibs, pacifier etc on it in purples and blues. The fabric on the right is white with little purple flowers, so sweet. These would be so great on burp cloths or even as little tag blankets with another fabric on the back.
These are a bit more girly but I just love how sweet they look.

Animal Baby Book

If you remember back to my baby room post here I had some problems with the vinyl animals sticking to the walls because of the texture of the wall and the vinyl not being sticky enough. I hated to waste all of that vinyl that I bought and spent time cutting out with my silhouette so I was trying to find something else that I could do with it. Friends of mine are making an alphabet book that we starting making pages for at my baby shower so that gave me an idea to do the same type of thing with the animals.
I took the animals and put them on a 12 x 12 piece of scrapbook paper and I am going to put the name of the animal at the bottom of the page and then laminate them to make a book. I think instead of having a binding down the side I will just punch a hole in them at the top corner and put them on a ring. I have about 10 or so of them and I think that is enough but I might make more if it seems like there needs to be more to make it worth while.
Here are a few more of them, I think they are so cute! I have a feeling this project will not be finished right away. Good thing I have some time before baby gets old enough to read and talk.

Don't you love that Zebra? He is our favorite. Which animal should I be sure to include if I do not have it already?

Bib for the Bjorn

I have a few baby carriers all ready to go for baby and I really wanted to get a Baby Bjorn so that if our baby wants to face out we can use it for that. Who knows which carrier we and baby will like best but we are excited to try them all out. I had been looking at the Bjorn and was going to wait until after baby arrived to buy one but I saw this green one on sale and had to get it!
I have heard that Bjorn has their own bib for the carrier that the baby can drool on and then you just take it off and pop it in the washer. They only sell terry cloth ones but not green and I thought making one out of this minky fabric would be great for softness for the baby. I had some of the same color green and thought it was perfect.
I made one of these for a friend a few years ago and still had a template all ready to go so I just cut it out and sewed it together and voila, a cute matching bib for my Baby Bjorn carrier! So excited to give this a try.

New Fabric/New Find Friday #52

I have finally decided to go back to displaying these fabric finds like I used to, one picture of the fabric in stacks and one with the fabric laid out. I noticed that the stack pictures you can often times see the colors and patterns better.
You have seen the bottom fabric before in a previous post, on the burp cloths and bow tie on the onesie. The blue and white fabric right above it looks great with it, brown background with geometric flower shapes and dots between the flowers. I also like the next fabric from the top, blue and brown again, small circles created with dots.
The second from the top (or from the right) has a bit more color in it, brown background with teals and orange. I like the different shaped flowers, sizes and shapes. The orange fabric on the top (right) has a subtle green dots in between a white dot pattern. I like the softness of this orange fabric and how it looks great with the fabric just to its left.

Animal Boppy Cover

Here is another item in the set that I posted about on Monday. When I showed the soon-to-be mom fabrics choices for the cover and burp cloths she saw this animal fabric and wanted something made out of it but didn't know what. The baby's room is going to be jungle themed and this fabric is perfect for that. It has animals in pinks, blues, and tones of greens and yellow-orange. I said if she wanted this fabric why don't we make it into a boppy cover, so cute and practical.
This is the first time that I have made a boppy cover and actually have a boppy to try it out on. When I did so I realized that it needed a bit more fabric in the middle to fit around the middle of the boppy. It fit before I added extra fabric but was a bit tight, I had no idea and I hope that everyone else that has a cover is okay with theirs. So I added a piece of fabric in the middle of the cover, you can see that in the picture above. I think this will help it not be so snug around the boppy and allow for better usage.

I am glad to know of the changes that needed to be made to it and I hope to remember that when I make one for myself.

Coordinating Cover and Burp Cloths

A friend of mine who found out that she was due just a bit after me asked if I could make her a cover and two burp cloths for her little one. She is waiting to find out what she is having and wanted something neutral but cute. She picked out the floral fabric and matching dot for the burp cloths. I love the way the two patterns coordinate, it almost looks like the dots came from the center of the flowers. ;)
I like the flowers on the cover, it has great neutral colors but at the same time is a bit feminine for a mom to wear. You don't have to have a cover in the color of the sex of your baby, you are the one wearing it. The burp cloths are nice and neutral and that is perfect for using while burping so that everyone doesn't confuse your boy for a girl or vise versa.

New Fabric/New Find Friday #51

Here is a set of fabric that I purchased while looking for some fabric for a client. I am sure you recognize the fabric on the right from the last post on Wednesday. While picking up that fabric I found two other fabrics that I really like. The fabric on the left is another colorway of fabric that I used on this project. I didn't see this colorway back then when I purchased that green colorway. I like how bold the animals are against the brown background. The fabric in the middle was a last minute choice, it was on the cutting table at the store and I loved the way the orange and pinks were used together (again do we see a theme) so I had to get some of it.
All of these fabrics are different and I already have used the one on the right for a project you saw. I am sure that the one on the left will be used for a client or some fun projects I have in mind. The middle fabric is just so much fun that I hope a client likes it, would be great for a lot of different items.

Pop Art Cover

This fabric has reminded me of pop art since the first time I saw it. Those bold colors with the black and white polka dots in the flowers. This cover is for a friend from Church who has a little boy and hates the cover that she was given when she was preganant. She said she feels unattractive while wearing it. I hope that she will feel happy and attractive while wearing this one! I loved that desicription and feel that it is tottally right, you need to feel good and pretty when wearing anything, even if it is a silly breastfeeding cover.

I am happy to be making something for someone so excited about it and to see them enjoy the cover for years to come, hopefully with many more babies!

Christmas Presents For a Little One

This is an order for a little baby born sometime during the Christmas season and this baby's aunt wanted to get something special to celebrate his birth. She asked for a set of burp cloths and two oneies with a phrase on the front and something cute on the butt.
I have yet to do any onesies with embroidery on them OR with something sewn on the butt so I thought this would be a fun project. The burp cloths and first onesie she wanted to match the fabric I used has a fun blue bubble dot pattern on brown. It is great for a boy and looks great as a bow tie. The phrase she wanted was Gurley Man (the baby's last name), and I love the play on words as well.
She mentioned what about a bow tie for the butt and I thought it was cute and funny and went with it. I love how it looks on the butt, cute but with a little bit of humor.
Since he is coming around Christmas time for the second onesie she wanted it to say Santa's little helper and have something on the butt, we decided on an ornament. Here is one of the Christmas fabrics I showed you a few weeks ago. I think it is a cute addition to the onesie.
I think this little guy is going to look so cute in his new outfits. Now that I have done a little bit of embroidery and applique on the butt you might be seeing more of this here on the blog.
